SHRUNK

I always struggled with the concept of humility so much that I didn't even know how to accept a compliment. I always make a joke when I receive a compliment instead of saying "thank you".
For example, if you say "Tomilola, you're looking really nice today". I'll say "ah, I'm just trying to keep up with you o". I'm so afraid of sounding proud that I'd rather not make a sound at all.

I felt like the concept of humility tells us we need to shrink ourselves. We need to say "yes you are better than me." But I've learnt recently, that humility isn't about shrinking ourselves. It isn't about dimming our light so others can shine(Spot the Marianne Williamson reference here). It's about recognising our imperfections....knowing that I am what I am by the grace of God. It's about boasting not in my strengths but in the God that gives me the strength. Humility does not mean you kill your self esteem and believe that everyone else is better off than you. So now, I'm learning to say "Thank You" when someone gives me a compliment. What have you learnt recently?

I wanted to look very simple today. I wanted to wear something that anyone can find in their wardrobe. After all, that's what blogging is about...to inspire...So, I just wore a white tee and a pair of old riding pants I've had since forever but it looked too basic so I threw on this old blazer from Ebay and that's how this monochromatic look was birthed. It's very "me" to try to throw some colour in there but I resisted the urge and stuck to black heels. How did I do? Every piece of item is old so there's no link to it.

"You are a child of God. Your playing small does not serve the world. There is nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people will not feel insecure around you. As we let our own light shine, we unconsciously give others permission to do the same. As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically liberates others. -Marianne Williamson"

Love the fact that when you throw in the blazer, it looks good enough for a corporate outfit, take it off and you can go casual with it.
You look great again!... and in the spirit of learning how to take compliments, say thank you, cuz you do look good (and i've said it over and over again, say thank you again and again) :-)
