HEY THERE, I'M TOMILOLA

Hi guys, I wanted to tell you guys a story about idolatry but I didn't want it to be long, sad and boring. God doesn't appreciate us having idols and I know we sometimes limit idols to some wooden thing we bow down and worship. Yes, those are idols but c'mon guys, we are in the 21st century, the definition of idols have broadened. An idol is a physical representation of your "god" and thus anything you treat as important or more important than God is your idol and idolatry is a sin. So think of anything really, money, your partners, SHOES, clothes and many others can be your idols. For example, when I was younger, I would skip church if I didn't have anything fancy to wear, so fancy clothes were my idols. They were way too important to me and a great hindrance to my service to God. I hope you get the picture. Have a lovely week guys!

  4. thank you for sharing dear. Very true all that you've said. Some of us have made things and people become idols in our lives and don't even know it. We have exalted other things above God which is a sin and God hates the sin. May God open our eyes to see these idols, the grace to remove them and the wisdom to make GOD number 1 in our hearts and in our lives, in Jesus name, Amen.

  7. Sadly, clothes, shoes and weaves used to be my "gods"...I kept saying I had everything under control...until I had a major breakdown and found myself over my head in debt.
It wasn't easy but the first step was admitting I had a problem!
    Thanks for this post Tomilola!!

  11. This! This! This! I can't say "this" enough! I've been in these shoes...and God kept trying to open my eyes to see that he was becomin my god and I was so far away from him. Around that time I read Redeeming Love again and it was like another huge pointer...he desperately needed me to return to my first love. You'ved said it all...it feels good to know that he's Jealous like that and that he loves us enough to correct us and not just write us off. Beautiful...you said it all, and quite nicely too :) Love the use of pictures.

  12. This! I was in these shoes...I think I still am. I put "him" before God and let God take the back seat. I'm glad that he loves me enough to be jealous and he didnt write me off totally. Around that time things were not working out and I read francine rivers "redeeming love" again...I knew I needed to get back to my first love. The heart still has a long way to go in the healing business, but I'm working my way to where I need to be, loving him daily...

Beautiful. Love the use of pictures to tell the story :)

  19. Omg. Wow... This post was on point... "He" was my God for a bit and I prayed to have the negative things in my life removed... low and behold, "he" disappeared. Funny how that works. Now I'm at the void but never thought of asking god to fill it up. So simple!
