PERFECT IMPERFECTIONS

Hi guys,

This is just a quick post that I felt the urge to do. I have so much flaws in my body just as I am sure a lot of other women do and I just realised that true beauty isn’t feeling the urge to change all your flaws but to accept all of them. It’s accepting the big nose you got from your father or the dark lips which you love to cover up with a red lipstick. True beauty is this; FLAWS AND ALL. So, I have a picture of myself without any make up highlighting all my flaws for the world to see. I hope it encourages someone out there battling with acceptance and reminds them that BEAUTY is amongst many other things, SKIN DEEP! I LOVE YOU GUYS! Have an awesome and productive weekend

PS. I want to say THANK YOU ALL SOOOOO MUCH for your birthday wishes. You guys are simply amazing and I am really sorry that I haven’t been able to reply your comments. I’m in Nigeria at the moment and the internet service is ridiculously expensive and ultimately discouraging.  But fear not, I’ll be back in the UK very soon! Excited! Lol

“Don’t go to the Bible looking for your own idea. Go searching for God’s.”

Lots of love,
Tomilola E.

  1. None of the things you mentioned in the picture are imperfections or flaws, it's part of what makes you beautiful. I don't think nappy hair and a wide nose are flaws at all. Love your blog <3

  6. Hi Tomilola,

While I get that you are trying to show you are human, I think this is wrong. You should not call this things flaws because it is beyond your control and God made you like that. Things within your control can be attributed as flaws.
Nappy hair isn't a flaw. I don't get why it is called nappy (pisses me off sometimes), it is just really curly hair. And for the lips you said 'naturally' dark, how can you type that and call it a flaw. I'll stop there with the critique.
Who you are(whether you think it is perfect or not) is who God wants you to be. You should accept yourself like that because God made you perfectly you.

  8. Hello Anon,
Everybody knows God is a perfect creator but what the society calls "ugly" and "beautiful" are the causes of insecurity and other evils we see and hear around.
She is only trying to make everyone know that beauty is skin deep and regardless of what the society calls your so called flaws (the nappy hair, naturally dark lips etc), God has made you perfectly, so you embrace what you are and not try to change into "someone else"

I absolute love this post Tomilola. God bless you.

  17. This picture is me to the T! I've battled with insecurities all my life. Today as I was driving home this very thought was on my mind. I just so happened to see your Bombshell stat on Fashionbombdaily today and decided to check your site out. You never know who God uses or what channel he uses to help or teach you. Reading your post has seriously given me some strength to except myself for who God made me to be and also to know there are other people out here with the same plight I face. Thank you for having the courage to reveal your true self and also for helping a fellow Naija gal with her own exceptance. Thank you!!!!!!!!

  18. Nappy hair is NOT a flaw. That is an old colonialist social construct.
